Types of Coughs
Coughing starts when part of your breathing passage becomes inflamed or irritated by matter such as dust, smoke or mucus. A cough is simply a reflex that tries to remove the irritant and clear the airway.

WET COUGH
Cough associated with excess mucus or phlegm – which may be described as ‘wet’, or ‘chesty’.
DRY COUGH
Cough associated with minimal or even no mucus or phlegm – which may be described as ‘dry’ or ‘non-productive’ cough.
NON SPECIFIC COUGH
Cough which may be associated with just an irritation or tickle in the upper respiratory tract, or which may develop into a wet cough.
